VICTOR – Phyllis Jean Anderson McEvers passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011.

Phyllis was born in Spokane, Wash., on June 5, 1923. She grew up in Spokane and was trained as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital. She lived her life as the ultimate nurse, always caring for others and especially concerned about the babies and children of the world. She touched many lives in many places over her lifetime. Wherever she lived she worked to make the community a better place to live.

Phyllis married Chuck McEvers in 1944. They were married for 66 years before his passing in August 2010. They are survived by two sons and two daughters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her family was always the love of her life and she wanted everyone to remember that “love conquers all.”

A remembrance gathering will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, from 3-5 p.m. at the Stevensville Senior Center, 100 Mission St.

The family suggests memorials to UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), 125 Maiden Lane, New York, NY 10038; Planned Parenthood, 219 E. Main St, Missoula, MT 59802; or Victor Schools Umbrella for the Arts, P.O. Box 568, Stevensville, MT 59870

#2 John Baller 2011-10-31 15:36 It is with a heavy heart that Pearl and I write these words to honor such a cherished friend, and convey our condolences to her beautiful family. Phyllis and Chuck were our dear friends for many years and we would never let them forget that Taholah was their home. We will miss them both dearly, but have so many wonderful memories to keep them alive in our hearts. Quote

#3 Mariel Tyler 2011-11-01 14:30 I am so sorry to learn of Phyllis passing. I am so glad that I was able to visit her and call her when I was in Montana in August. She and I worked together for several years in the Civic Club and Garden Club and we spent many hours on Main Street selling T-shirts and in the Park making taco salads for the summer festivities. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Death leaves memories that no one can steal. (not my quote) Nancy, I wish you all peace and love and contentment and be glad you live in beautiful Montana. #4 Beryl and MaryLee Bailey 2011-11-03 06:51 What a great person. She was one of the first people we met when we arrived in the valley 16 years ago. So glad to have had the chance to know her!
Her dedication to the community was never ending. All the fun times in the Civic Club trailer. Getting the trailer to and from the fairgrounds. Getting set up for Breakfast in the Park. She was the force to get things done. All wonderful memories for us. The last time I saw Phylis she had just had her hair done. Pink highlights. I'll miss that laugh!
What a game gal. She will be missed.
