STEVENSVILLE - Donald D. "Don" Lowry, of Stevensville, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Valley View Estate in Hamilton of natural causes.

Don was born April 15, 1929, in Sidney to William and Mary Lowry, the second of six sons. He was raised in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School in 1947. On Aug. 25, 1947, he married the love of his life, Helen Bender. The two had two sons, Bob and Steve, and two daughters, Eva and Donna.

Don worked in numerous tire shops in Montana until achieving his goal of living in the mountains of western Montana, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and sightseeing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wallace, Terry and Glen; son, Steve; and grandson, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Stevensville; son, Bob of Missoula; daughters, Eva Smith of Missoula and Donna Burgett of Stevensville; and brothers, Jim of Great Falls and Bill of Savage. Don also leaves 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Whitesitt Funeral Home with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Stevensville. There will be a reception following the committal service at the Stevensville United Methodist Church.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Don's name to your local food bank.

Helen and family,
Was sorry to hear about Don's passing. My memories however of Don and you all are still as current as yesterday. The fun we had playing cards and Don's quick wit and happy full of life attitude has always been an encouragement to me. I never saw Don when he wasn't the most pleasant person one could be. My greatest sympathy to all of you.
