STEVENSVILLE - Iris Charlene Marchuk, 81, of Stevensville, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at her home. She was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Eveleth, Minn., the daughter of Helmer and Ida Koidahl.

Iris attended first through eighth grade at the Boone Country School. She then graduated from high school in Baudette, Minn., in 1948. On Aug. 19, 1950, Iris was united in marriage to Louis Marchuk. They were married for 62 years and lived in various cities around the country due to Louis' career. Iris was employed at Revlon Inc. in New York City. In 1975, they settled on a large cattle ranch in the Stevensville area.

Iris was a member of the Lolo garden club. Our Savior Lutheran Church was her church home, where she was active in the LWML for many years. She was the mission director and assisted with quilt making, arts and crafts, bazaars and clothing drives. Her greatest joy was working on the ranch: moving cattle, riding and raising horses, designing her log home and general activities related to ranch life.

Iris rode her faithful horse, Tammy, for more than 25 years, riding fencelines and checking cattle and range conditions. She stashed her two-quart water bottles in many places around the ranch as her own personal oasis, some of which we still find today.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Capt. Louis Marchuk of Stevensville; her daughter, Lynda Zimmerman of Minneapolis; her daughter, Pamela Olson of Howard Lake, Minn.; her son, Keith Marchuk of Stevensville; seven grandchildren living in Minnesota, New Mexico and California; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Whitesitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Stevensville. There will be a reception after the committal service at the church.

Bruce and I send our love and prayers. Iris was more like a big sister to me rather than a cousin. She will be missed.

Grandma was a wonderfully kind woman with a generous spirit! I remember her lovely garden, roses, fruit trees, her chickens, sewing and crafts! She also put on quite the tasty spread at holidays with lots of pies!!! She was a wonderful Grandmother and we will miss the awesome gift she was to us!
Love,
Lisa, Jason & Dalton (plus in honor of Grandma...our dogs, bunnies, turtles, frogs, fish and future animals, lol)

My memories of Iris are prior to the move to Montana, back in Rosemont, MN where our families always celebrated birthdays together (especially mine & Pam's since they were only a day apart). Where there also was a horse which we rode & swam with in the local "lakes". I remember Iris' always twinkling eyes and the smile. Having recently lost Mom, I know this isn't easy and my thoughts, prayers and sympathy are with you, Louie, and the entire family.

Louie,
My memories of Iris are also from Minnesota. We always loved going to your home and riding the horse, the motorcycle, shooting the BB gun. And I can't forget iceskating on the creek, and going on a trip with Pam in the little Beetle Bug iceskating somewhere downtown! Mom & I came to Keith's HS graduation! That was the last time I actually got to see you guys. Truly enjoyed keeping up with you all through Mom & Dad's annual visits. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Thoughts, prayers, and sympathies to you all. Iris is a great loss for you and your family.
Love to all of you,
Jeanne Lewis (Camp)

Louis - I am saddened to hear of your loss. Iris was a good friend and fellow class mate. We graduated together from Baudette High School in 1948. She was much respected and admired by those that knew her. I feel that God will welcome her with open arms.- Mait

I was sorry to hear about your wife and mother Iris's death. She and I worked together in Baudette at the Bell telephone company for a a short time in the late forties. Iris was a sweet quiet lady and I enjoyed her company. My sincere sympathies.

Dear Louis and family,
I know - it's almost February 1, 2013 and I missed hearing about Iris's death. Please know how much I appreciate all of you in Bob's family and how much I empathize with you, Louie, at Iris's death. It is not an easy time.

I have remarried in November 2012 to a man from Pennsylvania who lives in Jackson TN. He is a good man whose wife has been dead for about 7 years. He is 86 and has some health issues but I'm pretty used to that. He was a forester for the State of Pennsylvania. He has five children all grown, married and with children of their own. They are scattered over the U.S. so we have traveled quite a bit for me to meet them.
Love to you, Pat
