STEVENSVILLE – Jack L. James passed away suddenly Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. He was born to Lester and Mattie James on June 17, 1950. He attended school in Stevensville and graduated in 1968. He worked at Cenex, Napa and owned J & M Tire before returning to the Corvallis NAPA. He married Marlene Hartman James in 1991. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Lester; his mother, Mattie; his wife, Marlene; and a sister, Linda. “Still waters run deep” is a term that was often used to describe Jack. He was a quiet and reserved man but his love and devotion to his family and friends was unsurpassed. Jack was from a time when you helped your neighbor or anyone in need. Jack believed you make do with what you have and never take anyone or anything for granted. Jack learned the skill of woodworking, mechanics and his undeniable work ethic from his father. There was rarely something he couldn’t fix or build. Jack, a fifth-generation Bitterrooter, was proud of growing up and living in the valley. He enjoyed going to work every day and seeing all the different faces of friends whom he met through the many years of standing behind the counter. He was an amazing son, brother, uncle, husband and Dad. To his grandchildren he was “PaPa” and he was their hero. Jack is survived by his sister, Gail (Russ) Herrell; daughters, Brein (Cliff) Martin and Michelle Olson; nieces, Deni (Gary) Hurless, and Amber and Heather Herrell; nephews, Daren and Deven Olson; grandchildren, Victoria Hutchinson, Keynan, Brayden and Irelynn Martin; and his second family at the Corvallis NAPA. Jack, “PaPa,” you will be truly missed and until we meet again, we hold you in our hearts and memories forever. A funeral service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Whitesitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.
