BUTTE – Robert P. “Bob” Toshoff passed away in a Missoula hospital. He was born April 22, 1929, in Roundup to Pencho and Steffie (Polich) Toshoff and grew up in that area, attending school in Kline. Bob moved to Butte to attend the Montana School of Mines. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Pratt, in Roundup on Aug. 26, 1951. She joined him in Butte, living on campus at the college in married student housing. Bob graduated with a degree in geological engineering and worked a short time for the Anaconda Co. before taking a position for Stauffer Chemical at the Maiden Rock Mine. He was transferred to the Stauffer Chemical plant west of Butte where he worked as furnace supervisor. Bob loved to golf and bowl and belonged to the senior league at Star Lanes. He was a distinguished alumni recipient at Montana Tech and a member of the Montana Tech Hall of Fame for his basketball skills. He was captain and played forward for Tech while attending there. He was also a member of Theta Tau Fraternity, Montana Tech Diggers Association and the Montana Tech Alumni Association. Besides his parents, Pencho and Steffie, Bob was also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Lucille and Andy Pratt; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Pratt. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Toshoff of Butte; son, Robert G. “Bob” Toshoff of Missoula and his son Matt, who is serving in the U.S. Army and is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and daughter, Stephanie Toshoff; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jim Head of Eldersburg, Maryland; grandchildren, Brianne, Brian and Haley Ruch, also of Eldersberg, and Kirsten and T.J. Tomaschefsky of Catonsville, Maryland. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, James and Adonna Toshoff of Harlowton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rand and Char Pratt of Bel Air, Maryland; sister-in-law, Claudia Pratt of Missoula; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, where a reception will follow in the Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Diggers Athletic Association at Montana Tech.
