Missoula - Vernon T. "Sonny" Tennant, 79 of Missoula, passed away August 6, 2015 at the Stevensville Living Center. He was born April 17, 1936 in Kalispell, MT. The son of the late Vernon and Mary Tennant. Vern was raised in Kalispell. During his high school years he found a passion for sports, in which he excelled in football. He graduated from Flathead High School-Home of the Braves in 1955. After high school Vern became a Grizzly on the football team as a fullback on the 1956 roster. In1958 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for 3 years, before returning to Kalispell. In1961 Vern went to a dance where he laid eyes on Audrey and an instant love for eachother was formed. They married in 1961 and quickly began a family. Vern was a hard worker and a great family man. He worked for Meadow Gold for 30 years before retiring. He had the ability to get everyone's attention with his whistling. He loved to watch sports, had many "secret" fishing holes, challenged all to Pinochle and Cribbage, and enjoyed dancing with his wife at the Accordion Club dances. Vern is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey, of Missoula, and 3 sons, Richard and Julie Gebhardt of Ronan, Rocky and Sue Ellen of Delaware/Montana, Kirk and Lori Tennant of Stevensville, 2 daughters, Janet Turney of Victor, and Julie and Mike Weiner of Wisconsin, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 brother, George and 1, sister, Louis of Kalispell. The family suggests to celebrate the life of Vern, crack open a beer and enjoy, Here’s to you, Dad!

To Vern's family, I express my sincere condolences for your loss. I knew Vern or Sonny Vern since grade school. He was always a great friend through the years and after high school, we lost contact when he went to college and I joined the Navy. I'll always remember Sonny Vern as a great competitor and a gentleman on the field. Even though he was the biggest player (at the fullback position) on our senior year team in 1954-55, he always played with gusto and a fair sense of play. It was my hope that he would be able to make it back to Kalispell for our 60th class reunion on August 2, 2015 but his failing health didn't allow it. Sonny Vern, as you pass through the after life, save a spot on the bench for the rest of your team.

Dear Audrey and family, I read about Vern this morning and want to convey my sympathy to you and family. Just last week Jerry Luchau and I were talking about Griz football and Vern's name came up. Jerry played with Vern At UM. I told him I had not seen you two lately. I do hope that Vern was not suffering in anyway. I will tell Jerry in case he doesn't see the paper. This fall when Griz football starts we will toast Vern. He was a great friend for anyone to have. I always enjoyed talking with him. God bless you all. Sincerely, Carol

Dear Audrey and family, We were so sorry to see that Vern passed away. We were just talking about him at the class of '55 reunion last weekend, he was missed. I don't think anyone even knew he wasn't well.
He was a special friend for many years and always had a smile. You all made him very happy and gave him a good life.
You are in our prayers,
Bill & Helen

Dear Audrey and Family, Sorry to hear about your loss, Vern and I went back
a long way and I always considered him a great friend. I remember his great
effort while playing football, a game he loved. I also was stationed in Hawaii, but in the Marines, but we ran into each other from time to time. While we
have lost a great friend, we never lose our memories..
