Barbara "Barb" Phillips, age 68, loving wife, sister, Mom, Gramma, soulmate, and friend was welcomed home into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 18, 2016. Barb was born on March 6, 1948 in Glendive, MT to Tony and Elsie Zahn of Circle, MT. She enjoyed her farm life growing up in Circle where she attended school, graduating in 1966. She later married Jim Morgan, had three children, and was later divorced. For 25 years, Barb was the office manager and medical assistant for Lance Hinther, M.D. in Missoula, a position she adored. She often commented on the privilege of having a great boss and job that allowed her to meet many wonderful friends there, whom she cherished and loved. In 1988, she met her true love and soulmate, Jack Phillips, whom she married on May 10, 2011. They were a perfect match, spending many happy years together at their Missoula homes, at their Seeley cabin, and in later years, wintering in sunny Arizona. Barb was a very positive person, beautiful inside and out with a heart of gold. She had a great sense of humor, laughed easily, loved a funny joke, and could always light up a room. She possessed an inner strength few could match, easily compensating for her tiny size with love, honesty, integrity, character, and grit. She was tough and pleasantly stubborn, lovingly being called "Jack’s little bulldog". She naturally loved working in dirt, and was often found in her rock and flower garden, happily being teased by neighbors as the farmer of the block. She was particularly proud of her beautiful maple tree, one she nurtured for years from a tiny sapling. As a loving Mom and Gramma, she was extremely proud of her children: daughter Tammi (Mike) Appis of Mentone, CA, son Chad (Dianne) Morgan of Missoula, MT, and son Tony (Laura) Morgan of Port Angeles, WA, with her life made even more complete by Heath (Margaret) Phillips of Denver, CO, Dean (Brooks) Phillips of Helmville, MT, and Daisy (Rich) Weborg of Denver, CO. Her greatest delights were her grandchildren (including her soon-to be-born grandchild and great grandchild!): Kelsey, Caleb and Corbin Appis of Mentone, CA, Rylie Ashley Morgan of Port Angeles, WA, Colby Morgan of Dillon, MT, Teague and Addie McFarley of Missoula, MT, Connor, Alex and Sophie Phillips of Denver, CO, Sydney and Trey Phillips of Helmville, MT, and Sadie, Asher and Willow Weborg of Denver, CO. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Elsie Zahn of Circle, MT, Jack’s parents, Kenneth and Florence Phillips of Lead, SD, and numerous relatives. Survivors include her husband Jack Phillips, brother Don (Beryl) Zahn of Circle, MT, sister Deb (Jeff) Porter of Hamilton, MT, and her 6 children and numerous grandchildren listed above. She will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched. You'll think of her often, her laugh, the things she said and did. She never really left you, she just went on ahead. To celebrate her memory, share a hug as she was always willing to give them freely! At her request, no traditional funeral service will be held.

To Barb's family,
What a sorrowful loss for you. She was a wonderful person that I've known for many years, the last 13 years as a great neighbor and friend. I will miss her terribly.

Chad, Tammi, and Toni,

I am so sorry for your loss. For the loss to all of those whose lives she touched. I will always be grateful to have known her and your family. She was always so kind and fun when I stayed over at your house in Circle. She worked on the same floor at Community that my OB and my pediatrician worked and she would give me big hugs when I saw her in the hallway. She was taken far too soon. Her never ending smile will live on for eternity in our hearts.

Our sympathy goes out to Barb's entire family and particularly Jack. Ernie knew Jack from their working at the pulp mill where they became special friends. We would often be with them at pulp mill events. I got to know Barbara, along with Jack, better at our rehab sessions at St. Pat's. Both of them always smiling, they were such a nice couple to be with. She was taken at a much too early age and is missed by many. Thinking of you, Jack.
