Stevensville - Leon Dee Logan, aged 87, died peacefully at home on January 16, 2017 in Stevensville, Montana after a prolonged illness. Leon was born on September 6, 1929 in Rockford, Coosa County, Alabama to Mamie (Hughes) Logan and George W Logan. Leon was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty M (Johnson) Logan, son John W Logan, and all of Leon’s siblings. Survivors include Leon’s three daughters Genie R Logan (Paul Koop) of WA, Julie L Logan and Teresa L Logan of OR, grandchildren Alison Koop, Andrew Ferreira, Katrina Ferreira, and Amisa Ji, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leon served in the Air Force during the Korean war, and while in the service met his soon-to-be wife and kindred soul Betty. They were married November 22, 1953, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Leon attended college at Auburn College in Auburn AL, University of Washington in Seattle WA, and completed his degree in Forestry at Washington State University in Pullman WA. Leon had a full and interesting career in the US Forest Service as a Forester and then later as a Watershed Specialist, serving in many places including Republic WA, Superior MT, Ashland MT, Bozeman MT, and Missoula MT. He retired in 1985 from the forest service, and then thoroughly enjoyed over 30 years of retirement in Stevensville MT. Leon had a great love of automobiles and driving. He enjoyed history, travel and observing the ever changing scenes of nature. In recent years, Leon’s philosophy of life evolved to: “Smile every day” and “Make good memories.” That he did for all that knew him. Leon’s family is deeply grateful for the excellent care and companionship provided by friends, neighbors and the Home Health and Hospice of Montana care team. Burial services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 27 at Sunnyside Cemetery near Lone Rock School, outside of Stevensville MT, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Stevensville Senior Center at 3:00 pm.

Leon was a real car guy. Several years ago he said he turned north out of Lewistown, Mt and put the pedal to the metal and still averaged 29 mpg in his Taurus. He was very intelligent and a fine man. He will be missed. Thank you Neil Miller Bell McCall Ford Hamilton
