Missoula - Katharine "Kay" Wikstrom was born October 14, 1934 and died September 20, 2019. Born to German immigrants Matilda and George Vollmer, Kay grew up on a farm near Berthold, North Dakota. She attended Carroll College on a music scholarship where she met and later married Primus Wikstrom. They divorced in 1979. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, brother George (Michael) Vollmer; three infant children Veronica, Mary, and Theresa; and an adult son Joseph Wikstrom. Kay is survived by four children: Michael Wikstrom of East Glacier Park Montana, Leo Wikstrom of West Glacier Montana, Paul Wikstrom of Shoreview Minnesota, and Lorraine Wikstrom of Greenwood Village, Colorado. Kay had many creative and intellectual gifts and she navigated challenges with grit and determination. In her final years Kay benefitted from the warm embrace of the Missoula community including neighbors, caregivers and friends, Dr. Michael Caldwell and staff at Providence Clinic, Father McCormick of St. Patrick’s Hospital, Meals on Wheels, The Senescense House staff and residents, Hospice of Missoula, Missoula Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, Adult Protective Services (APS), Northwest Energy, Norco. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to National Association of Mental Illness, Catholic Charities, or Hospice of Missoula. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

We will miss Kay's strong opinions that she used to tell us over the phone. There was only one of her for sure & we were lucky to have her as a friend.
