Stevensville  -  Wayne Patterson was born October 21, 1953, in Great Falls, Montana to Lorene and Charles Patterson. He was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on March 19, 2021. Wayne worked in his early career as a carpet layer and an assistant Manager for KG Men's Store. He was paralyzed in his early twenties when he surprised a burglar in his home. Despite a setback that would have stopped others, Wayne did not let his disability slow him down. He went on to work as a Rehabilitation Advocate as well as studying to repair and build clocks. Wayne loved woodworking and carpentry and used his skills to bless others. Wayne married the love of his life, Kathryn Patterson, on September 11, 1999. They were soulmates. He loved her children and his grandchildren as his own. Their marriage was a special blessing as evidenced by her following tribute: To my beloved husband and amazing friend: I want to express how much I am going to miss you. We have spent the last twenty one years together, and they went by way too fast. Our life together was adventurous, full of laughter, and meaningful in so many ways. Being your wife was one of the greatest joys of my life. You provided me with so much happiness and fulfillment. You not only loved me with your whole heart, but also opened up your heart for my children as well. You stepped into the role of a father for my daughter right away when she needed one the most, and while my son was older and already living a life away from home, you loved them both as if they were your own. As their families expanded, you opened your heart even more and became Papa to our beloved grandchildren. I know they will treasure their “Adventures with Gramma and Papa” as much as we did. Before we met, in your early twenties, your life was forever changed after a burglar shot you and left you paralyzed from the chest down. This did not stop you from living a full and generous life. You were a giving, kind hearted, independent man that always had a positive attitude and loved your family without measure. You accomplished so many things for your family, friends, church and community. You always lent a helping hand to anyone in need and gave to so many with your generous heart. You were talented in so many ways. You built furniture and other beautiful woodworking projects for your family and took special joy in making beautiful wooden crosses that you gave to family, friends, and acquaintances throughout the years. You took pride in your stagecraft projects for church and it was amazing to see what beauty you could create from a simple piece of styrofoam or wood. Your works were a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The thing I loved the most about you was your unwavering faith in God and your service to Him. You did not just talk, but you walked the walk. I watched you touch so many lives throughout your life with me. I always thought of you as leaving the fingerprints of God everywhere you went. I am so sad you are gone and yet so happy you are with Jesus rejoicing and using those precious legs we all take for granted. I also know we will meet again someday, and I am so grateful for the blessing you have been to my life and the lives of others. With love, Your Special K Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Patterson of Stevensville; Children: Son Glen Chandler of Great Falls; Daughter Tracy Russell of Anaconda; Grandchildren: Sean and Emily Chandler of Great Falls; Cameron Bartlett of Great Falls; Adelaide Russell and Jasper Saltenberger of Anaconda; Great Grand Child Asher Bartlett of Great Falls. Niece and nephews: Lisa (Bob) Scott, Cassandra Swartz, Michael (Melanie) Swartz, Nora RIchards, Pete Walsh, Brian Wash, and Meghan (Neil) Ryan, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marla Walsh. The family wishes to thank all of the people who have been involved in Wayne's care in the last couple of years. We greatly appreciate all you did to help support him and his family! We know Wayne would wish to thank anyone whose life was connected to his in some way; he loved you all. Kathryn wishes to thank her family and her friends for their support, prayers, love and the many gifts from the heart. She is especially grateful to God for listening to their prayer coverings over Wayne and herself and His pouring out the blessing of strength, peace, and comfort upon them while they navigated their final years and Wayne’s passing. A Celebration of life will be scheduled in the future when we are able to have a large gathering. Meanwhile, his family is celebrating memories of him together in small gatherings. Prayer for the family is essential. Memories of your times spent with Wayne will be cherished by his family. Donations may be sent to Whitesitt Funeral Home under Wayne Patterson's name. Wayne will be greatly missed by those who love him, but great comfort is taken knowing this is not the end and he awaits to greet us on the other side.
