STEVENSVILLE - John "Jack" Hanson, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Stevensville from complications due to prostate cancer on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

He was born in Havre to Sylvia and Jack Hanson on Nov. 4, 1927. Upon graduation from Havre High School in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving his honorable discharge he attended Northern Montana College for two years, then went on to earn a B.S.-B.A. degree at Denver University.

On July 21, 1951, Jack was married to Marjorie Johnson at St. Matthew Church in Kalispell. They resided in Havre, where he had a 45-year career as a New York Life Insurance agent, being elected to the Montana New York Life Insurance Hall of Fame in 2005. In 1988, the couple moved to Lakeside and subsequently to Polson, where he enjoyed life on the golf course, and then on to Kalispell in 2000 to be near his aging mother-in-law. In 2004 they settled in Stevensville.

Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing but his greatest love and devotion was for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of the family home in Stevensville; sons, Jeffrey of Helena and Matthew of Great Falls; daughters, Kristy of Kalispell, Kari (Robert) Lewis of Los Altos, Calif., and Jennifer (Brent) Cotton of Stevensville; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jane Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev.; three nieces and four nephews.

He was a member of St. Mary's Mission Parish in Stevensville, where a private family funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Huber on June 12. Burial will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to either Aspen Hospice, 107 Bell Crossing W., Stevensville, MT 59870 or a charity of the donor's choice.

Marge and family: Accept our condolences, as you knew Hank has been a very special friend. Although I shall miss his his friendship, fortunately I have fond memories to sustain me. As Bob Hope would say:"Thanks for the Memories".
Hank until we meet again

Dearest Marge and family; We were so sorry to hear of Jacks passing. We stay in touch with Jeff but was not aware tell late of his health. Chris has such fond hunting and fishing memories with Jack and the kids. My favorite was the baby shower you and Jack threw for us in the back yard of your house when we had Thora. I still have the picture of Chris and I sitting in lawn chairs and everyone giving us a bd time of WHO was the prego one? Me or Christ. I can still see Jack asking the question and everyone just laughing so hrd as I rubbed his belly and asked him when His due date was. We had good time which means good memories. May all those wonderful memories comfort you all now and the days ahead. May our Lord wrap his arms around you all and keep you safe and the knowledge that he is home with our Lord and has no more pain and will be waiting for each of us. God Bless you all. Love and Hugs. Myrna & Chris.

Dear Marge and family: Michaelene Harrington told me last week about Jack's illness. Tonight, I checked his name and found the obituary online. Please accept my sincerest condolences. You and Jack were so kind to me during my 2006 visit with Michaelene. I felt so at home and close to extended family.

I started the search for the Dvorsky family in 2000. Barbara and Joseph Dvorsky came to Pennsylvania from Slovakia in 1879. Their daughter, Anna, married Steve Colarchick and went to Butte and then Belt and Raynesford Montana. So, my grandfather, Martin, who stayed back in PA, was Anna's brother, making Jack and me and Michaelene 2nd cousins. I cherish the family history and have some of Jack's remembrances of Anna's homestead that he shared with Michaelene and were passed on to me. I will keep you and your family in my special daily prayers.

Such a dear sweet man who was known to me growing up in Havre as my friend Kari's dad. He always had a smile and friendly hello for everyone. When you think of Jack, you can't help but smile. May he smile upon you from above. :-)

Dear "Aunty Marge" and best cousins a kid could have: I'm so very sad not to be able to see those eyes smiling as they allways did in Billings,Havre or at the lake. My uncle Jack was truly a lovely man and I'm so proud my Jeana gave my only grandson the name Jack. Please know our hearts and prayers are with you. Hope to see you sometime in the near future. Love your "big cousin" Pat XXX
