Stevensville - Karren “Sissy” Morton of Stevensville, MT, passed away on June 30, 2014 with close family and friends at her bedside. Sissy passed away from a complication caused by an infection, and a fall at home on Saturday June 28th. Sissy was a 6 ½ year advanced ovarian cancer survivor and was recently responding very well to a new chemotherapy drug and had high hopes for remission. A greater fighter and hero does not exist. Though life had thrown her many hard challenges, Sissy always persevered. She was always thoughtful of others. Even at her lowest, she was always finding ways to help others and stay positive. Sissy touched many people in her short 48 years with us. She is survived by her mother, Brenda Morton and her father, Mickey Morton and spouse Nancy Menez, brother Steven Morton, sons Jesse Barteaux (fiancée Brook), Jake Barteaux, and Rayn Morton (spouse Abby). Her grandchild Alex was her pride and joy and Sissy was looking forward to grandbaby #2, and doted on her goddaughter Sarah Ava Craun. She is also survived by her beloved aunt Quetta, uncles Chuck and Frank and their extended families in Oregon. Sissy was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather and grandmother and her paternal grandfather and grandmother. Sissy had so many friends around the world they cannot all be mentioned here. She loved and was grateful for every one of them. A memorial and potluck will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 3pm at the Lone Rock School on Three Mile Road. In lieu of flowers, live plants for a memorial garden are greatly appreciated. Donations to the Ovarian Cancer Society in her name are also welcome.

Brenda, Steve and Family -

We were so saddened to hear that Karren (Sissy) had lost her struggle against that terrible disease. She, and all of you, put up such an amazing effort. Sissy certainly was an inspiration to so many.

Dick (Mr. Trouble) and I send our heartfelt sympathy, love, and prayers.

My heart aches for you all. Please know that she was a very special patient to us. Even though it was hard at times, she still managed to bring a beautiful smile with her! Please know that I wish you all the best during this most difficult time, and you are all in my heart.

I was so saddened when I read today of Karren's passing. She was just too young to be taken. I will always remember my daughters gathering at her childhood home, across from ours on Tripp Lane, snapping beans, for instance. Or the unofficial "Tripp Lane pony club" gathering all the kids in the neighborhood to ride together, usually up Ambrose Creek Road. Although I didn't visit her since my return to Stevensville, she lived down the street from me for a short period, and I always think of her when I pass that house. That also caused me to pray for her, knowing she was fighting cancer. My prayers are with Mickey, Brenda, & Steve. There's no way to prepare for your loss; God grant you peace as you learn to live with her absence.

Dale and I enjoy some great memories with Sis. First, Dale had the pleasure of having her as student in high school. Later in life, we had fun finding "primitive furniture" for her and enjoying her eye and creativity with it. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.
