FLORENCE – Tommy Lee McCleerey, 63, of Florence, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes. He was born May 4, 1951, in Livingston. As a young boy, he lived with his parents at their Big Timber Yellowstone ranch from 1951 to 1956, where he took his first steps and said his first word “train,” a word that would forever remind him of home and his childhood. In 1967, he graduated from Sweet Grass County High School. Four years later, he graduated from the University of Montana with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in geology. He was a train enthusiast who enjoyed every aspect from model trains to the powerful steam engines of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Something about trains spoke to him, especially the age of steam and the roar of the train on the tracks. His other hobbies were amateur geology and gun collecting. He was a longtime master control operator of KECI Channel 13, in master control for 38 years. Tom was an active member of the Lolo Baptist Church in the ’90s and also taught Sunday school at the Lion’s Den Church in 2011. He always had time for his sons and family. He is survived by his three sons, Chris, Matt and Robby McCleerey of Florence; and his older brother, Dave McCleerey of Missoula. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Florence Carlton Cemetery; friends and family welcome.
