Stevensville - Orland Leo Howard, “The Big O”, 79, of Stevensville passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the residence of his daughter, Debby McPherson also of Stevensville. Orland was born July 31, 1936 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Delbert M. and Hannah M. (Knopf) Howard. He attended Butte Public Schools in Montana and McHugh School in Minnesota. Orland was married to Lucia Williams on February 15, 1958 in Pomona, California, later sealed for Time and Eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on February, 1980. Orland was a man of many talents and trades. His occupations have included working in the mining industry in Montana, ice harvesting on Detroit Lake, MN. He drove delivery trucks for a laundry company and Fairmont Ice Cream, he also worked for the city of Pomona, CA. He owned and operated a successful asphalt and paving company and for many years worked for the railroad and managed his own railroad salvage business. Orland served proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1957. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing pinochle and other card games, bowling, telling stories, dancing, reading the encyclopedia, good Westerns, being in the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert (1989) and Hannah (2004), three brothers, Leroy (1935), James (1948), Cary (2008) and his wife, Lucia (2014). Survivors includehis siblings, Neil Howard of Victor, MT; Richard “Butch” Howard of Absarokee, MT; Diane (Ed) Sanders of Claremore, OK; Linda Sharp of Salmon, ID; Curtis (Sarah) Howard of Menahga, MN; his children, Debby (Chris) McPherson of Stevensville, MT; James (Jodi) Howard of Victor, MT; Lawrence (Alison) Howard of Frazee, MN; Mia (Michael) Davis of Spokane, WA; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren with three more great-grandchildren arriving soon. He is also survived by his faithful and trusty dog Keisha, “K2”. Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Stevensville, MT with Bishop Robert Horlacher presiding. Burial will take place at a later date at the Richwood Lakeside Cemetery in Richwood, MN. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua McPherson, Mitch Lund, Domenic, Caleb and Isaac Howard and Brendan Davis.
