Florence – Danette Roberta Hawkins, age 66, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2015, at her home in Florence. She was born to the late Enid Friesz Hawkins and Robert Hawkins on April 27, 1949 in Sheridan, Montana. She was raised in Butte and Dillon and graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1967. After high school, she attended college at Western Montana College. While in Dillon, she met Bob Casagrande and the two were married in 1969, moved to Whitehall and had two sons. Throughout her life, she flourished at various jobs. She owned and operated a ceramic store in Whitehall, was a Property Manager/Broker for Reality Executives in Phoenix, Arizona and served as an Executive Secretary for Hewlett-Packard in Santa Rosa, California. Danette married the love of her life, Phillip Flukas, on September 5, 1998. They moved back to Montana in 2003 and she realized a lifelong dream of returning to Cosmetology School in 2006 and finally opening her own salon in 2007. Danette was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Hawkins; father, Bob Hawkins; stepfather, Ray McCafferty; granddaughter, Zoe Casagrande; and mother, Enid Hawkins McCafferty. Survivors include her husband, Phil Flukas of Florence; son, Robert Casagrande and his wife, Julie, and granddaughters, Katie, Bailey and Shay, all of Missoula; son, Cory Casagrande and grandsons, Mason and Boady of Helena; and bonus siblings Bill and Hazel McCafferty of Georgia, Rae Ann McCafferty of Billings, Chris and Lance Ivanish of Miles City, and Pastor Art and Connie McCafferty of Lincoln. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 12, at the Florence-Carlton Community Church, 20075 Old Highway 93, Florence, MT, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made in Danette’s name to the Montana Cancer Center, 500 W. Broadway Street, Missoula, MT 59102.

There wasn't a more lovely and fun-loving individual than Danette. She is going to be missed by so many. She had a posse of very close friends who will treasure every moment spent with her. She brought "special" to everything she touched and will be remembered with much love and fondness. Our love and prayers are extended to everyone grieving this unique lady.

Danette and I worked together for about two years. She was an enthusiastic person with the touch for making her life and others' a little extraordinary. During lunch she usually had an embroidery project going which kept her occupied. I still have a little handmade bag she made for me, a wonderful surprise. Later on, whenever I would see her, she would insist on a hug. How fortunate for all of us that we had the opportunity to have known her! My sympathies go out to her family and friends.

Phil and family, my thoughts are with you at this time. Danette lived a life to be admired. She followed her mother's example of going to Jesus with grace and joy in the midst of sorrow at leaving family and friends. You, her loved ones, were so supportive and blessed her. At one time she expressed to me how comforted she was to have Phil by her side. I feel sure that this thought was extended to all as you gathered round. You responded as I would hope my family would do. May you feel God's presence comforting you as grieving takes its natural course. She is rejoicing. We will laugh with her again, a lovely thought.

I have no doubt that God will remember her and keep her memory safe. He will surely be glad to bring her back to life in a perfect world when suffering will be no more and we will all welcome back our loved ones that are asleep in death. (Revelation 21:4 & John 5:28, 29) May our loving Father bring your family the peace and comfort only He can provide.

I remember my beautiful cousin Danette from an early age. Our Family vacations were spent in Montana visiting family in Dillon, Butte & Deerlodge. Danette was someone I always looked up to. So beautiful, statuesque and sweet. She spent time visiting us when we were living in Maine. A memory I will always cherish. Feeling blessed that we were able to reconnect later in life and thankful for the opportunity to see her last year.
My condolences to Phil, her Sons and family.
