Stevensville - Jennings Don Hurst, 81, of Stevensville passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 peacefully in his home. He was born March 30, 1935 in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the son of the late Jennings W. and Falba A. Hurst. During Jennings' childhood, the family traveled west, eventually settling in Oroville, California in the early 40's. It was there he graduated high school and began his work in the sheet metal trade. Hearing about the beauty of Darby lured him to western Montana in 1972, prompting him to build a log cabin on Lost Horse Creek as he began working with the Smart Local #103 sheet metal union. He moved to Stevensville in 1995 where he built a new home, retired in 1997, and continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, and metalsmithing in his shop. Jennings is survived by his wife Mary of Stevensville; two daughters, Emily Hurst and partner Kenneth Biffi of Canada, and Coreena and husband Christopher Maples of Missoula; former spouse Roberta and husband Carroll Johnson of Oroville; one daughter and two sons, Lori Hurst and husband Paul Richardson of Granite Bay, Mike Hurst and wife Terri of Oroville, and Brian Hurst and wife Lauren Golden of Berkeley; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother. A celebration of life gathering and potluck will be held Sunday, Sept.11, 2016 at Bitterroot Family Church, formerly known as 1st Babtist Church, in Stevensville at 2:00 p.m.

My sincere condolence for your loss to the Hurst family. My husband Berny Preuss and I became acquainted with (Jennings) Don in or about 1987/88. We counted him in our circle of exceptional friends. When Berny needed to go to Denver for medical reasons, Don went with him. We were always so grateful for his help, his sense of humor and they way he was always with us. He will truly be missed but then I can see the two of them, Berny and "Don" doing a great meeting up there. They were both good men. "Jennings", Don will really be missed.....See you on the other side.....Arlene
