Amy Mulhauser Obituary

In memoriam for Amy Rosalind Mulhauser; one week later

Wednesday, I spent much of the morning saying my final farewell to sweet, precious, loving little “a” … nicknames for both angel and Amy. Look at the photos I will post and see if this babe was not a catch. She jumped into my life about 23 years ago … braving a trip from Billings to Missoula after we met online. I was too shy but I’m sure glad that she wasn’t.

She was estranged from most of her family. Amy was born in Billings on February 15, 1951 to J.R. Felt and Margaret “Dolly” Movius Felt and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 5, 2025 in the late afternoon. She had been doing what she loved – working the land outside.

Amy attended schools in Billings, California, and Minnesota. When she graduated from High School in MN, there were no family members at the ceremony to cheer her on. However, she was very proud to be included with her many friends at Billings Senior High School and was excited to attend their reunion in the summer of 2025.

Through much tribulation, Aim attended the U of MT intending to pursue a career in nursing via St.Patrick’s School of Nursing. Life intervened, though, and Jennifer was born, so Aim traveled to Georgia to finish her nursing license and was also selected to teach some classes.

Amy’s cooking expertise was displayed when she opened a restaurant called Mes Amis back in Billings. Later, to the delight of her best friend Jerry, she could prepare anything and made life so special with treats and favorites galore. People would often call and ask for cooking help and tips. Many of Jerry’s former students became “food” friends with Aim.

Great West Business Machines offered her a position where she travelled throughout the northern Rocky Mountain region. Amy really found her niche with Prudential Insurance - and then General Electric Financial Assurance - when she became a licensed insurance agent specializing in Long Term Care. That was when we met.

Camping called to us and we first used a pop-up, hard-sided, pull-behind trailer; the first night was spent on the top of a mountain pass with snow leaking in through the edges. She longed for an Airstream trailer and we finally made a deal on a 20’ A/S after the earlier box trailer detached from our trailer hitch ball. So, glamping – it was. Good fortune took us to Seattle where we bought our first Eddie Bauer 25’ A/S and then an “updated” 25 EB. She really liked the rear hatch for loading gear and a motorcycle for side trips! We “glamped” all over the Pacific Northwest from Oregon and Washington to Canada and back to Montana, and attended many regional and international AS rallies. Some of her favorite campsites were just short hops away, but her favorites were anywhere on Flathead Lake and just two miles from where she most recently lived, Bass Creek Campground. With the mountains in the background, we started our search for the perfect place to live our retirement and found a spot with not only room for a large garden, but also a “Glacier Park-like” view from our dining room table. She especially liked watching the animals …deer, foxes, marmots, hawks, and eagles … while we sat outside in the shade of trees which we had planted.

Amy was an expert seamstress and gave up her old tried and true sewing machine in order to learn the intricacies of the more modern technology. She had her own interchangeable lens DSLR camera but as cell phone photography improved, Aim was continually shooting pictures by phone. Her garden was in a huge 50’x75' plot, and she spent much of the year collecting the mature vegetables and fruits to freeze-dry later. The spare bedroom was taken over by plant starts and the living room had some plants over 10 feet tall!

Little Amy longed to be acquainted with firearms while growing up, but as an adult she was an avid marksman at both a law enforcement range and on their own property; she had an unusually good trigger finger indexing and was proud of “her” firearms. She was also brave enough to rappel down a six-story building with her husband to help a volunteer cause…and wanted more.

Amy’s true loves, however were her husband and best friend, Jerry … and animals … a cat called Toughy or just Cat; German Shepherd Dogs Kylie, Kvelky, and Koko; a miniature pinscher, Krocky; and chickens Maggie, Candy, Mary-Doug, Barbara, and Audrey. Amy leaves behind a husband of 23 years, Jerry Mulhauser, Florence, MT, and two daughters—Jennifer Bingham-Robinson (Jes) in WI (granddaughter, Nicolette) and Jessica Sellegren (Eric) in AK (grandsons Charlie and Wynn, and grandson Dante Potter in Billings); three brothers—Mick, Doug, and Rob; three sisters—Maggie, Candy, and Mary; and a favorite cousin, Dr. Ed Movius.

She was cremated on Thursday and her ashes will be shared with her husband Jerry and daughters. Some will be spread around her large garden and also the lower meadow.
