Faye Hammersley Obituary

Stevensville - Faye Iris Lindquist-Hammersley went to be with her lord on Dec 11,2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Faye was born 3 months early on March 22, 1940 in rural Minnesota to Elsie L Hallin and Lester Lindquist. She grew up on a dairy farm in Braham, Minnesota and never lost that farmgirl connection or can do attitude. She went on to study nursing at St.Barnabas in Minneapolis ,Minn. She received her LPN but had to quit before the completion of her RN studies to take care of her parents. Later she moved to Denver and practiced nursing and married her husband Arthur Hammersley on December 21,1970. A friend offered Art the opportunity to come work with him in Montana so they moved to the Bitterroot Valley for the first time. After getting pregnant and her fathers failing health they moved back to Minnesota. Soon after her fathers death, the destruction of the farm from a dam break, and the birth of her daughter Tammy Hammersley(Paul) in August of 1972 they returned to Montana in the spring of 1973. In October of 1976 their son Ray Thomas Hammersley was born. Faye was preceded in death by all her grandparents, uncles, aunts, parents, brothers, brother-in-laws, step daughter, and beloved husband of 49+ years Arthur Hammersley. She is survived by her sister-in-laws Pat Lindquist and Darleen Lindquist; her son Ray Hammersley, Daughter Tammy Paul-Hammersley(Alex), and step son Wade Hammersley(Laura); her nieces and nephews Paula Hardin(Kirk), Mary Ann Schaum, Vicki Rowan, Valerie Lindquist, Vincent Lindquist, Lynn Larsen(Bob), and Mathew Hammersley; her step grandchildren Heather Hammersley, Lacey Miller(Jade), and Jessie Mingus; her adopted granddaughters Hiedi Bennet, Amanda Spencer, and Rita Bundren. Faye was an active member of TOPPS, Red Hats, Homemakers, and an election judge at Lone Rock for many years. She was a founding member of Florence Bible Church and taught phonics at Florence Christian Academy. She taught Sunday school, Awana, and Vacation Bible School at Florence Bible Church as well as Community Baptist Church. She helped with Bambino and Jr. Babe baseball at Lone Rock being a score keeper and helping run the concession stand for games and tournaments. She did the training and became a co-scoutmaster to help her husband run Scout Troop #117 for 7+ years. All along she practiced her nursing by working in the home health sector until 1994 when she took on the care of her step mother-in-law Lola Hammersley. After the passing of Lola Hammersley in the spring of 1996 she was called on again to become a caregiver to her husband Art when he had a brain aneurysm that fall. She continued to be his caregiver until his death in May of 2020. Faye was a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful friend. She was an avid reader and book collector. She would devour anything but poetry and mysteries were her favorite. She set out to learn something new every day. She loved cookbooks and had collected them since she was a little girl. She liked to do puzzles, crosswords, and sudoku. She loved doing card making and scrapbooking with her papercraft friends at Bitterroot Paper Crafts. She enjoyed the peacefulness of coloring in her adult coloring books. Her faith and family were the most important things in her life. She was very proud of her son-in-law Alex Paul for his military service and his constant strength when she needed it most. She was an active member of the prayer chain and would share her beliefs with young and old alike. But mostly she was a silent example by living it. Always there to lend a helping hand and an encouraging word. Soft spoken and slow to anger with a warmth you could feel. She was an "adopted" mom and grandmother to whoever needed it. Showing them that there was someone who cared about them. She was always there to talk you through whatever troubles big or small. She had the ability to make time full and rich even when money was tight. Her stories were always richly detailed and full of life. She touched the lives of all who knew her. If you are one of those people we encourage you to stop by her celebration of life on June 14th at 2pm at Community Baptist Church. We will have a potluck style gathering and the family would love to hear the stories of her life. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesittfuneralhome.com. Faye's ashes will be placed in the wall with her husband Art at the VA cemetery in Missoula. The family would like to thank Faye's team of doctors for their care. Big shout out to the E.R. and nursing staff at St. Patrick's Hospital. Thank you to Whitesitt Funeral Home for your kindness and excellent care..
