Hamilton - Harriet Elnora Dickhaut, formerly of Bismarck, ND passed away at her home in Hamilton, MT on October 14, 2022 at the age of 93. Harriet was born on November 23, 1928 in Marion, Iowa to Ross and Esther (Gifford) McCoy. She was the 2nd born of 6 children As a young adult; she left home and traveled to Beulah, ND with aspirations of becoming a nurse. She found out that the nursing program in Beulah was unaccredited, so she left and moved to Bismarck. While at Bismarck she worked for St Alexius Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Nursing was in her heart and she was highly influential in the nursing careers of two of her children Howard and Belinda. She cared for her two sons with hemophilia and her husband with Parkinson’s disease. Harriet worked many years in health care as a nurse aide and later as a coder in the medical records dept of a long term care facility and at Bismarck hospital. She retired at the young age of 74. She was talented in the areas of cooking, baking, knitting, crochet, and was an excellent seamstress. A few weeks before she died; she commented how she was “Going to make some cookies and an apple pie when she feels better.” Harriet met Clarence Dickhaut at a church picnic in Bismarck. They were married on October 7, 1951 at Tolstoy, SD. Four children were born to this family; Everett, Howard, Belinda, and Charlene. Clarence’s job with the bureau of Reclamation moved the family to many different locations; Benson, MN, Fargo, ND, Miles City, MT, Minot, ND, Phoenix, AZ, and Bismarck, ND. Due to a need to be closer to family, one last move was made to Hamilton, MT in 2020. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her sons Everett and Howard, Her parents Ross and Esther McCoy, Her siblings Bertha McCoy, Rufus McCoy, Frances Mulske, and Marvin McCoy. She is survived by her sister Melveena McCoy of Marion Iowa; Her daughters Belinda (Dean) Schmidt of Alexandria, MN, Charlene (Mark) Twist of Hamilton, MT, her grandchildren Evan (Amy) Schmidt, Nyla (Justin) Woitte, Talia (Matt) Anderson, and Denver Twist, her great grandchildren Gemma and Jessa Woitte, Runa and Noah Anderson, a sister in law, Durnetta Werth, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Harriet was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Through all her life she explicitly trusted God; and said many times “The Lord’s been good to me.” She now waits for the call of the life giver Jesus to wake her at His second coming. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalms 116: 15 Even so, Come Lord Jesus.
