John Albert Barei

Stevensville - John Albert Barei, 73 of Stevensville, MT died peacefully with loving friends at his side on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 at his beloved home after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born April 26, 1949 in Santa Clara, California to Evelyn Matilda Barei and Albert Lewis Barei An only child, John grew up living a real “Little Rascals” or “Sand Lot” life organizing and playing baseball games with friends of humble means. They became so good that they caught the attention of local business men who sponsored them against a much bigger and better team from San Francisco. The small time team with no coach beat the best team around! They were so proud of themselves. John never married and had no children. A larger-than-life individual, he was a resourceful man of many talents. An avid gardener, he enjoyed making his property inviting to all with spectacular flower displays surrounding an impressive trout pond. John has no known living relatives. He is survived by numerous friends from The Bitterroot Valley to California and his two dogs, Little Bit & Boots. He is preceded in death by both parents and all grandparents as well as numerous beloved dogs. John wished to be cremated. Thank you to Whitesitt Funeral Home for helping with the arrangements. A Celebration of life will be planned for a later date this summer. Memorials may be made in John’s honor with The Bitterroot Humane Society. A special thanks to Dr. Mandi Griffin who made this journey endurable. Special thanks too, to Bitterroot Health Hospice and especially, Ed, RN for his compassionate care of John and his faithful friends by his side during this difficult time.
