Stevensville - Marvin LaRoy Armstrong, age 88 of Stevensville, Montana passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on October 18, 2021. He was born to Harold and Alma Hazel Armstrong on October 10, 1933 in Andes, MT and he was raised in Missoula, MT with his 6 brothers and 4 sisters. He married Clara Job on September 16, 1960 in Wallace, ID and they recently celebrated 61 years of a love-filled marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was Grandpa Idaho to many grandchildren and great grandchildren gifting them with his woodwork and sharing the love of the outdoors. Marvin enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 serving his country around the world with the 407th Motor Vehicle Squadron. After separating from the United States Air Force with Honors and relocating to the Missoula / Bitterroot Valley area Marvin delivered freight and sometimes drove the Greyhound Bus from 1955-1974 for Northern Pacific Transport. He and his family moved to Grangeville, Idaho in 1974 to open and operate the A&W Restaurant, later changed to the Burger Time Restaurant, with his wife Clara until they sold the business in 1999. He and Clara also built and operated the Sundown RV Park from 1994-2007. In 2007, at age 74, he returned to trucking for Baker Trucking and Rick Fischer Enterprises. After many years in Grangeville, ID they returned back home to Stevensville, MT in 2012 to enjoy their retirement. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses in the backcountry. He was the fastest huckleberry picker in the Northwest. He volunteered for the 3 Mile Fire Department and the Lone Rock School Board in Stevensville, MT. He was a member of the Back Country Horsemen and Idaho County Sheriff’s Posse in Grangeville, ID. Marvin was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stevensville, MT. Marvin was cherished by his children and their spouses: Michael, Catherine Wright (Gary), Tina McPherson (Peter), Lynn Musick (Jerry), Dirk (Jan) and Monte (Mary.) He was loved by his siblings and their spouses: Lorraine Everson (Don,) Loren (Grace,) Melvin (Darlene,) Richard (Dena,) Jerry (Glenda,) Phillip (Ruth,) Phyllis Johnson (Kermit,) Marilyn Wagner (Alan,) Virginia Hritsco (Leonard,) and Paul (Chris.) He was a beloved Grandfather of 17 and Great Grandfather of 39. Services will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church (184 Pine Hollow Rd, Stevensville) at 1:00 Saturday, October 23, 2021. His burial, with military honors, will be at Sunnyside Cemetery on 3-Mile Road (Stevensville, ID) followed by a reception at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
