Nancy Fisher Obituary

Stevensville - Nancy Anne Fisher was born to Eleanor and Edward Fisher on April 13, 1955, in Anchorage, Alaska. She passed away at Edgewood Vista Memory Care on January 14, 2024, in Missoula, MT. She was 68 years old. Nancy spent her early years in Anchorage, Alaska. The whole family lived through "The Great Alaskan Earthquake" of March 27, 1964 which was 9.2 on the Richter scale. She, her parents, and her younger brother, Joe, moved to Montana in 1970. Nancy graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell, MT, in 1973. She attended Flathead Community College before transferring to Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, where she earned her Educator’s License in elementary education. Nancy’s teaching career began and ended with Stevensville School District in Stevensville, MT. She taught both 3rd and 4th grades. She loved her job, and dedicated her life to the school, her students, and the community. She retired in 2019 after a gratifying career of 41 years. She felt being an educator for 41 years was quite an accomplishment, and she was very proud of that fact. Nancy was an athlete. As a young girl in Alaska, she took riding lessons and became accomplished in dressage. After moving to MT, Nancy got to pick a horse or a new car for graduation. Nancy took the car as it would be easier to drive the car to Bozeman than to ride the horse. She was a lover of winter sports. Downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing were her favorites. She was also proficient at racquet ball, handball, and softball. She was a hiker and loved to tent camp in the mountains. She and her dad rode horses into the Bob Marshall Wilderness and spent several days there. The word outdoorsy exemplified Nancy until she found her true love…..DOGS. Nancy’s first love was a black standard poodle named Bridget. Bridget brought Nancy into the world of dog agility. She was a very active member of this sport for years. Nancy and Bridget travelled the state to attend dog competitions, and Bridget won many ribbons. They had a bond that was unbreakable. Bridget was followed by five more poodles. Tulie, Broghan, Cocoa, Brayden, and Teaghan. She loved each of these beautiful animals. They filled her life with so much joy. Nancy was a part of several dog clubs and served as president for ARDI, a dog club in Missoula. Nancy was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2019. This was a short 6 months after her retirement. She carried this cross with dignity and courage. She fought valiantly. Nancy developed many close relationships with fellow teachers. They have all remained friends and look out for each other. This group of friends remained true friends to the end. Not a day that went by without one or more of them visiting Nancy. They were with her until the end. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Edward Fisher, her brother, Joe Fisher, and niece Tricia Cassidy. She is survived by both her maternal and paternal cousins and her Stevensville Village of Friends: Roger, Kathy, Connor, Taylor and Gianna Cassidy, Steve Hopkins, Ellin Ifft, Diane and Mike Mickelson, Karla and Duane Baney, John and Molly Munk. Her Stevensville Family would like to express their gratitude for the love and care Nancy received at Edgewood Memory Care Facility and Big Sky Hospice of Missoula. Services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1400 Gerald Avenue in Missoula on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. A reception will be held in the Family Center at the church following the service. Interment will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday at the Victor Cemetery.
