Steven R. Payton

Florence - Steven R. Payton, 76, of Florence, MT went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 5, 2022. Upon graduation from High School Steve enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. After his military service, Steve graduated from Dunwoody Institute and started his own commercial electrical business in Alaska. Steve retired from Liberty Electric in Missoula and Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton. Steve was an active outdoorsman. He loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends. Steve was a gifted master electrician and worked/designed many incredible projects in his career. He earned his pilot’s license and owned his own plane in Alaska. Steve is survived by his wife, Linda of Florence; one son, Chandler Payton and wife Christine of Missoula; two grandchildren, Roenen and Neve Payton; two sisters, Barbara Hendrickson and husband Steve of Florida; and Cindie Payton of Minnesota; two Uncles, Lowell Zitzloff of Minnesota; and Ray (Aunt Judy) Zitzloff of Florida; special nieces, nephews, cousins, many Loving friends, and his beloved dog Charlie. Pallbearers are Chandler Payton, Roenen Payton, Doug Murden, Bill Trochmann, George Withey, Vince Lipari, Jimmy Vargovich, Tommy Jones, and Jeff Bateson. Funeral Services will be held Friday December 9, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, 1911 Tower Street, Missoula, MT 59804 (outside -casual warm clothes) with Stacy Ratliff officiating and Wes Ediger giving the closing prayer. A reception will follow the service at the Revive Bitterroot Church – Stevensville (located at 93 Stevensville lights) 3903 US 93 Stevensville, MT.
