Ty Evenson Obituary

Stevensville - Ty Dale Evenson, 63, of Missoula, Montana, passed away at home on Friday, October 17, 2025, from cardiac arrest. He was born on May 28, 1962, in Whitefish, Montana, to Dale and Louise Evenson.

Ty spent much of his childhood at his grandmother Helen’s home on Whitefish Lake, where was the favored son among females. He attended Hellgate High School in Missoula, graduating in 1980. Following graduation, he spent about a year living in Barrow, Alaska, with his uncle Tom before returning to Missoula.

Shortly after his return, Ty reconnected with Linda, a neighbor and single mother. The two were married on February 4, 1984, and shared more than 41 years together. Ty became a devoted husband and father, first to Linda’s children, Mark and Cathy, and later to their children together, Jessica and Tim. He was an enthusiastic coach for his children’s baseball and softball teams and was well-loved by the players.

Ty worked for several years in Spokane, Washington, where he and Linda raised their young family before moving back to Montana. He joined the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department, where he served with dedication for nearly 18 years. During his tenure, he rose to the rank of sergeant and shift supervisor and was a member of the SWAT team. Ty had aspired to be a law enforcement officer since childhood and took great pride in serving his community with integrity and courage.

An avid outdoorsman, Ty embodied the spirit of Montana. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, and rafting, and he cherished time spent in the mountains and on the water. A proud patriot, Ty’s motto—“God, guns, and freedom”—reflected his deep respect for faith, family, and country. He was extremely proud of Adam and Isaiah McElderry for their military service.

Ty was known for his dependability, generosity, and creative problem-solving—sometimes with mixed results, as family stories fondly attest. He was devoted to his family and especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandson. From dancing in the living room to teaching his grandchildren to shoot and making them morning hot chocolate, Ty created lasting memories filled with laughter and warmth.

A talented cook, Ty enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings and was protective of his kitchen domain. His macaroni salad and many experimental dishes became family favorites. Known affectionately as “Zip Ty,” he always carried zip ties and a pocketknife, quick to lend a hand or a tool to anyone in need.

Above all, Ty will be remembered for his sharp wit, dry humor, and gift for making others laugh. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends.

Ty is survived by his wife, Linda Evenson his children, Cathy (Adam) McElderry, Jessica (Nick) Evenson, and Tim (Bri) Evenson; his grandchildren, Isaiah (Rachel) McElderry, Lillian (Joshua) King, Auvriel and Barrett Evenson; and his great-grandson, Lazarus King. He is also survived by his father, Dale (Mary) Evenson; his sisters, Lynn (Jim) Rosenberg and Renee Evenson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Julie, mother Louise, and his stepson Mark Skinner.

The family invites friends and loved ones to share memories and stories that honor his legacy of service, humor, and love.
