VICTOR - Leonard R. Kent, 75, of Victor, stepped into eternity on April 7, 2012, leaving behind the pain and devastation of lymphoma. Leonard's journey was aided by the compassionate hospice workers from the Marcus Daly Hospice Center as his family kept constant vigil.

Leonard was born to Raymond and Eleanor Kent on Oct. 15, 1936, in Kalispell. He grew up in the Flathead Valley, attending grade school and graduating from Flathead Valley High School in 1954.

After graduation, Leonard held various jobs, working as a heavy-duty mechanic and a heel boom operator for different logging companies in the Flathead Valley.

In 1967, Leonard met and married his wife of 45 years, Shirley. Together they blended families and raised their five children in Kalispell. During this time, Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing and any outdoor adventure. He shared these with his family, teaching his children the skills of each sport. He continued to enjoy these sports with friends and his grown children and grandchildren after moving to the Bitterroot Valley.

In 1975 Leonard stopped working in the logging industry to trek north to Alaska, working on and off in the oil field of Prudhoe Bay for 25 years, first as a mechanic and later as shop foreman/supervisor. After the first two years of his Alaska adventure, in 1977, Leonard and Shirley moved from Kalispell to Victor to take over operation of his father-in-law's service station. Together Leonard and Shirley ran the L&S "C" Store for 12 years before selling the business and returning to work in Alaska.

While in Victor, Leonard joined the Masonic Lodge and became a lifetime member. He was an active member of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department and also served as an EMT for the Victor Ambulance.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Eleanor Kent, in-laws Ernie and Elsie Buker; daughter Audrey Schaff; grandson Timothy Schaff and niece Danielle Rapp.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Buker Kent of Victor; sons Michael Kent (Lorrie) of Helena, Patrick Kent (Marge) of Spokane and Mark Kent (April) of Brown Deer, Wis.; daughter Pam DePuydt (Tim) of Florence; sister Dolores Rapp (Art) of Missoula; two aunts; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Whitsitt Funeral Home in Stevensville. Masonic graveside services and internment will be at the Victor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Leonard's name to the Marcus Daly Hospice Center, 1200 Westwood Drive, Hamilton, MT 59840.

I am so sorry for your loss. May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Please allow God's Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.
