David Francis Matti

STEVENSVILLE - David Francis Matti, 76, of Stevensville, passed from this Earth on April 25, 2013 after battling cancer, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

David was born Nov. 26, 1936 in Missoula to David R. and Margaret Matti. He was the oldest of four children and spent his childhood years living on the family ranch in Helmville. He attended Powell County High School in Deer Lodge, before going on to the University of Montana where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and was licensed as a certified public accountant in 1963.

On Aug. 29, 1964, David married Judy Wohlers of Gold Creek. The couple lived and ranched in Helmville on the Mattie family ranch, where they began their own family before moving to Stevensville in 1978. Shortly after, David opened his own accounting practice in Hamilton. Altogether he practiced accounting for 50 years.

David was a kind, loving, generous person who was known for his honesty and integrity. He had a deep love for God, his family, his church and his friends and you could always find him willing to lend a hand to someone in need.

David is preceded in death by his parents, David and Margaret Mattie and his sister, Carol Peterson.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Mattie of Stevensville; three daughters, three son-in-laws and eight grandchildren, Donna (Steve) Ralls of Stevensville, along with their children Ben Ralls (Ariel), and Sarah Peterson (Karsten), Carma (John) Jackson of Brinnon, Wash., along with Carma's children Jessica, Shelista, Naomi, and Ariel Ochse, Monica (Robert) Lewis of Stevensville, along with their children Holly and Lane Lewis. He is also survived by two sisters and three brother-in-laws, Mary Jo and Leon Copenhaver of Missoula, Clara and Terry Wayman of Plain City, Utah, and Richard Peterson of Blanchard, Idaho, and several aunts nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on June 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church south of Stevensville.

Anyone wishing to make a donation on David's behalf is encouraged to send their donation to the David F. Matti Memorial Fund at Farmers State Bank in Stevensville or to make a donation to a cause of their choice.

To the family of Dave,
Dave was wonderful man, he took time helping with our family ranch bookkeeping for years. Dave and Judy were so kind in letting us come to their home to get our taxes done. Very good friends. Blessings to his beautiful wife Judy. Thank you Dave for your years of dedication to this community. Thank you for your true friendship.
