Janis Del (Shepard) McCleerey MISSOULA –Janis McCleerey, 68, was born to Francis and Alice Shepard in Wallace, Idaho on December 13, 1946, and passed away at Village Health Care Center, Missoula on Saturday, December 13, 2014. She moved with the family from Mullan, Idaho to Burley, Idaho at an early age, and then to Great Falls. Janis graduated from Great Falls High School and attended Macalester College, St Paul, Minnesota for a year, then enrolled at the University of Montana, School of Forestry, graduating with honors in 1970. She was the first female to attend “Spring Camp” for the Forestry School at Luebrect Experimental Forest in 1969. Janis married a college classmate, David W. McCleerey in 1968 and remained happily married for 46 years. Together they enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, boating, photography, backpacking and hiking. Janis was an avid seamstress, and an awesome quilter. This started early in grade school with sewing and mending clothing, creating her own wedding dress before moving on to her passion for quilting. She readily shared these talents with her friends and acquaintances throughout her adult life. She was very active in church life with her interest in children and music. Dogs were a constant companion for her. Janis is survived by her husband David and two daughters, Margaret Murphy of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jennifer Stokes of Havre, Montana and grand- daughter Abigail McCleerey of Missoula; sisters Donna Binkley of Seattle, Washington and Sharon (Bob) Baillargeon of Glasgow, Montana; brother Larry (Cindy) Shepard of Evans, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. Monday, December 22 with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers please direct donations to Thompson River Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) or a charity of your choice. We would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at both the Radiation Oncology St. Patrick Hospital and the Community Cancer Center at Community Medical Center throughout the past 22 months.
